We just purchased a 1987 H Legend 35 this spring. We would like to install a microwave oven in the galley. Has anyone had any success? Also, any suggestions where to find one small enough to fit over the stove in one of the storage bins.

I've got one...

...as standard feature in our 1988 Legend 37. It's mounted in the cabinet above the fridge (port side). It's a one cubic foot model. It plugs into a 120v plug wired within the cabinet. I recently had to replace it (last year) and had to shop around for the correct dimensions to fit into the existing cut out.

Wave Oven in Legend 35

I purchased the small wave oven from Boat/US, not sure which model, a couple of years ago. It's a marine model with the rotating dish inside. I originally planned to install it permanently above the ice box/nav table on the starboard side. (I know your model is probably built different from mine -- our Legend 35 is an '89 model and one of the last one built before the 35.5 model chage). However, I found that it fit perfectly on top of the hanging locker counter top in the aft berth area. It's handy to the galley, and it won't slide off when heeling to starboard! I plug and unplug it in to the receptacle in the aft berth as needed!!! Hope this helps... Good Luck and Happy Microwaving!

Microwave

When I put a microwave in my 35.5 I was restrictet on height. The smallest microwave I could find was an Emerson at the local Target store. The bad news is that Emerson doesn't make the highest quality product. But the good news is that it's worked fine so far and if it breaks it only cost $79 so it won't be too painfull to replace it.

Microwave in Aft Cabin

We have an '88 H-35 and just bought a Samsung microwave. It's height allows it to just fit on top of the hanging locker in the aft cabin. The problem is there is not enough clearance between the bottom of the door and the wood strip along the edge of the top of the locker. I thought about getting some larger neoprene feet for it but if the feet were large enough for the door to clear there wouldn't be enough room at the top. This location has an easily accessible electrical outlet. The wood strip is screwed on so the plan now is to un screw it and put on a smaller (lower height) one. Unfortunately, not all the screws are accessible and the whole hanging locker top will have to be unscrewed and removed. The existing wood strip would be saved and stored under the aft cabin berth in case we sell the boat and the new owners want it "original". We bought the microwave at K-mart. I don't know the model number off-hand but it is rather plain - no digital stuff. The owners manual covers this model and another one that is more upscale with adjustable power levels, digital controls, and readout but we were unable to buy one anywhere. K-mart couldn't (wouldn't) order one and the Samsung national sails headquarters refered me to about 8 dealers, none of which carried that model. The wattage is so low that adjustable power settings is not a must-have. Sometimes one wonders how some companies stay in business! Some companies buy their appliances from prime manufacturers and have their own lable put on them so this is why one brand can look so identical to another except for some cosmetics. GE makes a low silouete model but it is black and we wanted white - price was not an issue.

Thanks for the help

We put the microwave on top of the aft hanging locker like Ted suggested. Works just great. John, we had the same problem you mentioned about the door opening, put some coasters under the front feet and it works just fine. Clears the wooden strip. Thanks for everyones suggestions.
