Microwave/Convection

My Microwave is dieing for sure and thinking of replacing it with a convection/microwave and removing the oven which we never use.
I do have a Gen and inverter with 440 AH batteries with 2 -195 watt solar panels and so the old microwave was not very good and needed to use it 2 or 3 times to heat any think really well so the 850 watt draw was really much more and a new convection/microwave that uses about 1500 watt so would most likely be using maybe less.
I would also like to remove the force 10 oven with 2 burners and replace with just 2 burner and have more storage space.
Anyone change out their microwave for bigger or conv/micro.
We do alot of cruising and just make things easy for my wife.

look at the Half Time micro wave oven i have one in my boat and my live aboard friends in Fairhope have one as well ...they bake bread and brownies and all sorts of baked goods in them all the time...its a micro wave...convection and half time oven (meaning that you bake in 1/2 the time on that setting ) and it does a fantastic job ...give it a look see and see what you think...i think you will be pleased.....

Nick, it sounds like good option. Be sure there will be enough air circulation around the new oven. Our microwave is quite constricted, works ok but I would be concerned about a convection oven there without an extra ventilation fan or something to vent the heat.

You really can't beat gas/propane for oven work while cruising far from shore power. With that said, if you have a cruising habit that frequents places where you would have shore power then go for just about anything electrical that scratches the itch. course you don't have an "on the hook for 5 days or making passage solution" so you have to decide how you want to use the boat and what you can live without.

Microwave

Well when we are cruising either motoring or sailing my wife will use the microwave to heat up lunch or just heat up some left over coffee for me while I am at the helm and she will use the microwave a lot for other cooking of all kinds of stuff.
She can flip on the inverter and my 2-195 solar panels do a great job keeping the 4-6volt batteries well charged up for battery power,we make coffee ahead of time and depending when or what we are doing heat up the coffee with propane or microwave.
I am not in a hurry for doing any changes right now so I will be researching convection/microwave and looking at making a possible change from the oven to just cook top propane maybe after the first of the year once I finish my new bottom job in Dec.
