Would like your advice/experience getting a mooring at the Miami Dade mooring fields - Dinner Key, Crandon Park. I will be there next December (yes, I know - high season), and would like to know how easy it is to get a mooring for a couple of weeks. Apparently, it's 'first-come, first served'.

Pretty easy to get a mooring at Dinner Key in December. Not so easy keeping your lunch down when the wind blows! Sometimes it is dangerous trying to get into the dink. Bigger boats fare better. But it is a GREAT spot near Coconut Grove.

It was tough sledding getting a spot anywhere this past month in S Florida. The mooring fields sure look unattractive to my eye. Very exposed to S and E as Getting There alludes to. I had to open my pocketbook wide to get a space in Palm Beach / Lake Worth area---nothing available. It was the same in the Miami area and it didn't matter that I'm looking for catamaran moorage. Currently hoping for 3-5 days of a good window for crossing to the Bahamas. Not for myself, but for some folks to vacate their slips/moorings so that I can take their their place.
