I had a 326 and traded it for a 426 - the 326 had plastic tanks the 426 water tank is metal. Any advantage to one over the other? I haven't investigated the other tanks at this point as the boat is up north and I am down south. But am courious why one type would be prefered over another. Thanks for enlightening me. Ed

Metal WATER tank is fine, so is plastic

It's only waste holding tanks that should not be metal.

Metal Tanks

Ed... In early testing the American Medical Association has found a possible link between ingesting aluminium and the the dreaded Alzheimer's. They suggest that aluminium flaking found in pots and pans may be a factor. After seeing the inside of my 19 year old aluminium water tanks it wasn't hard to guess that something in there isn't too good for you. I'd go with plastic if I were you. Of course, stainless is an option. If you are interested in a 3rd choice e-mail me at captronbob@yahoo.com and I'll be glad to pass along the info I've collected... Ron

Plastic is better

The problem with metal is uric acid is highly corrosive. Eventually it will eat through a metal holding tank. Salt water adds to the equation, and within a few years you're replacing it again. The trick with plastic is to reenforce it with a couple of metal straps around the body. This keeps the bulging tendency to a minimum and allows a lighter weight tank (thinner plastic).
