Mercury Dingy

I've heard that they are of good quality, I have recently bought one and am going to inflate it this weekend. I have the 310. It is to have the new cone style for easier planeing. I will let you knwo next week. I bought mine off of ebay at bustermarine for 910.00 thought it was a great deal.

Formerly known as Quicksilver

I have a Quickskilver 330 I bought 4 years ago. Since then they have been bought by Mercury. I have been relatively happy with it although there was a problem with the skin. It dulled really quickly and actually got sticky. It turned out to under warranty and even though it was a Quicksilver, Mercury honored it and I got a new boat this year. Just for that fact alone I will speak only well of them

Merc inflatable

If it's a former Quicksilver, it's probably constructed of PVC and not Hypalon. Keep it covered when not in use, that'll increase its life.

I've had 2 for 3 years and they've held up very well-a 7" rollup lives on board in the cockpit locker, and a 9' inflatable floor model serves as a tender/dive boat. they are PVC, so don't leave them uncovered in the sun for best life, but We've been very happy with them.

PVC will not survive in Miami

PVC is not intended for those of us sailing in FL. I had a PVC dinghy that disintegrated in 1 season. Hypalon is the ONLY material to use in FL and other parts south. PVC is good up north but not in the UV that we get.

Quicksilver PVC in Florida

I've had a Quicksilver 300 for 4 years in Florida. I keep it out of the sun when not cruising. It spends about 3 months per year in the sun in Florida and the Bahamas. This year is started to get sticky. Got Island Girl Pink Cleaner. Cleans it up nicely. Good for another few years. When I bought the dingy, it was about 3 times less money than one made of hypalon. I figured that I could buy 3 of them as needed. The first one will probably make 10 years at the present rate. Bill

Mercury/Quicksylver, no good,

I have a Quicksilver 330 bought it in 1995. The skin got sticky first. I had to re-glue the oar pads with special PVC glue $26.00. 3 months aftrer that the seams are leaking all over the place (can't repair it). I called mercury but they said the 5 year warranty was over, so we won't help you. The dingy is in the trash. I am buying an Achilles next, they are made of Hypalon and will last twice as long as PVC and not! for twice the price. Ozana

Cruising World Article

FYI - Cruising world has a good article this month on RIB's. They don't mention traditional inflatables, but there are excellent comparisons in quality & performance between 12 models & manufacturers, along with a pro/con list between hypalon & PVC. It may be of interest. Allen Schweitzer s/v Falstaff C-30 Hull# 632
