Re Merc 9.9 Fuel Problem
The fuel system is ok up through the filter. Next step is the fuel pump which is integral to the Walbro carburetor and can't be checked out without removing the carb. The manual says to remove a Circlip and pull the choke knob straight out. The problem is that the choke knob will not then come out when pulling as hard as I dare. Am I missing something? Any help would sure be appreciated.

Just a followup for what it's worth. I was advised of a "work around" that did the job.
1 Pry the in-line fuel filter off of recoil starter housing.
2 Snip the 'sta-strap' and disconnect the fuel line.
3 Remove the recoil starter housing after unhooking the wire rod under its right rear corner.
4 Remove the 'circlip' holding choke-knob-bezel and unsnap the 'idle wire' from the 'primer bracket'.
5 Remove two bolts holding the 'primer bracket' to the carb.
6 Remove two bolts holding the starter/generator and move it aside.
7 Remove two nuts holding carb to engine.
8 Wiggle the carb free.
9 Blow out carb jets and reassemble.
It's a piece of cake!
