...so I am trailering our Sunfish after a nice sail, when I keep hearing a "bump and a thump " from the rear and the trailer seems to be jumping around every once in a while. I see a line fly up into the air and decide I better stop to check it out. I discover the halyard has been dragging and the trailer wheel has been running over it and that part of the halyard has snapped off. The halyard is now to short and I want to replace it right away. I figured that I lost 6 feet of it, then measure the remaining amount, coming to 16 feet. I go to the hardware store and promptly get 16 feet of rope, proudly having fixed it, I raise the mast and see that the rope is just as short as the snapped off one !!!!!! I had forgot to add in the 6 feet I had lost !!!!!!! What a dope!!!! I had to "slink" back to the hardware store and get the 22 feet of rope that I needed.
