Has anyone removed the reverse gear unit from a Penta MD6A ?
The rear output seal is leaking and based on the parts diagram, it would appear to be much easier to replace the seal if we pulled the whole reverse gear unit out.
It appears that we won't need to slide the prop shaft back more and a couple inches to disengage the reverse gear from the motor.
There is 4.5 inches between the prop shaft flange and the stuffing box, and we are hoping that we can do the job by sliding the shaft backwards without hauling the boat before the season ends.
(Not sure how far it is from the prop to the rudder. Would need someone to dive and confirm)
