MD6A: One or two V-belts from starter motor to flywheel?

Hi all.

Two questions:

First: There is provision for 2 V-belts from starter motor to flywheel -
as there are 2 corresponding "V"'s on the flywheel and on the starter
motor wheel.

I only use one - should I use both?

Second: I find it difficult to tension my (single) V-belt from starter
motor to flywheel.

Obviously the bolt on the tensioner arm and the bolts on the body of the
starter motor need to be loosened.

Then I use a piece of wood to push the starter motor away from the
flywheel then tighten bolts.

Trouble is I only have 2 hands and one I take the load off the piece of
wood the starter slips before I have time to tighten the bolts.

Any tips?

Thanks,

John

I think you are supposed to attach both belts.brbr

Another thing to consider... If you still have the old dynastarter, the bearings may be getting old and it may run a bit hot (once you get it running you can feel it.). Anyway, I have my belts as loose as possible so that I don't put undo pressure on the bearings until I can get the unit to a shop.brbr
