Our engine suffers from two long-standing oil leaks and I've finally decided to try and effect a cure, rather than just replace the lost oil as we've done for the last seven years. Any advice/suggestions would be appreciated: -
Leak 1. There is always a persistent drip from where the oil filter mates with the engine, I've tried both under and over tightening the filters, innumerable different brands of filter and whilst some seem better than others (Crossland filters seem to leak the least), I cannot get a totally leak-free seal. Any suggestions?
Leak 2. Spring Fever has a 'traditional' rather than a combi gearbox, which needs about 1/4 pint of oil adding every ten ours to keep it topped-up. I'm assured that 'it can't possibly' leak away into the engine' but have never discovered where this lost oil is going, it certainly doesn't go into the engine bay/bilge; any ideas where it might be going?
