Hi group.
I am in the process of removing my MD6A engine and need some advice.
Will the exaust pipe tha is in the after end of heat exchanger
seperate whe engine mounting bolts are removed?
I cut the large rubber hose that the pipe goes through and will need
to replace it.
I can't get at the 4 bolts in the rear of heat exchanger taht hole
the flange where the rubber hose connects to.
Does any one know where I can fine the large rubber hose to repalce
the one I cut.
Thanks for any help you may give.
Best regards to all,
Giani

Hi Giani;
any Boat US or West Marine store has that hose- just be sure
you get an exhaust hose.

Thanks Wilhelm
You answered one of may questions!
I have a long stainless steel pipe that goes trough the hose (exaust ) I detached it from the heat exchanger by removing four bolts.
I have no earthly idea how this comes apart to remove the hose.
Does it thread in the flange I removed from heat exchanger or is it pressed in.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The exhaust hose is normally attached to the metal part with (2) clamps-
looks like you don't have these,
then the hose is just pressed on. If you can't pull it off- just cut it
with a putty knife or whatever you have
(just don't cut yourself!). Be sure you get a new hose with the correct
diameter and get stainless clamps.
Are you going to replace the whole exhaust hose including the muffler?
Make sure you have a water trap.
If you just replace the hose from the engine to the muffler- make sure
the hose fits the muffler- otherwise
you may need reducer part.

Hi Gianni

Throw away the old exhaust system and fit a wet exhaust with hose and wter
trap, much easier and a lot easier to see if things go wrong. You will need a
Vetus water trap, a Vetus swan neck and some exhaust hose - Total cost should
be about £100 - £150

Kind Regards

Hi Gianni

The water trap is below the wter line but it collects the cooling water
from the engine and then pumps it out in the exhaust line. It costs about
£50 and the code is LP40 (40mm) or LP45 (45mm). Easy to fit. You should
also use the vent as you said to stop back syphoning into the engine with
following seas etc.

Hi Steve
Hate to bother you with another question.
I plan to go with rubber exaust hose from engine to Vetus water trap and then
continue aft.
I would like to use the swans neck and silencer that is there already .
There is a photo in Vega Hand book that has MD6A. 1972 I believe.
What are your thoughts on this?
Is it possible ? I hate to waste this good equipment.
Thanks in advance for your Input.
Best regards
Gianni
