I have an S-2 36 with an Md-17. recently the temperature started to slingshot hot and cold. At 1500 rpm's it go's from 150 t0 200 degrees and back. I thought it was the thermostat so I've replaced it 3 time's and the problem still exists. Now I run it with no thermostat and the Temp is steady at 125. Any Ideas? Am I really getting bad thermostats?

Sounds like maintenance time on the exhaust mixing elbow to me. You might have an impeller fragment that is repetatively blocking the ports. The elbow is a wear item that should be replaced much more frequently than most do the job. Five years or so. You can remove it and try to boil it clean, but they tend to rot from the inside out.
