I have single speed self tailing Maxwell winches on my 82 H27. While kedging off a sandbar, the starboard winch has froze! I dissasembled the winch and have found the problem. It may be tough fix. Are these winches "standard" on the cherubini H27s? I like them very much, the port winch works just fine, and I would hate to replace them. Are there any used ones for sale out there? any Ideas on fixing my broken one? I tried to contact Maxwell in New Zealand to no avail.. Any Ideas ? Thanks :)

Hard to find.

Used winches are really hard to find. You will need to search the web to locate used equipment like Sailor's Exchange(Related Link). Here are a couple more: http://www.sailorman.com/index.html http://old.cruisingworld.com/ssbk/ http://www.maxwellmarine.com/find_srap.php Also check E-Bay occasionally and "Gear Here" on this site. Good luck.

Maxwell Sheet Winches

Regarding your need for information about Maxwell Sheet winches. Maxwell stopped making sheet winches back in the 80's. We are strictly anchor windlasses now. If you can tell me the model of sheet winches you have (on the ring on top of the winch)I can direct you further regarding part numbers and parts. I will also need to know if they are self tailing or not, and if they have an aluminum drum (gray) or chrome bronze. Send your info to me at Scottw@maxwellmarine.com and I will help you if I can. Starting with an e-mail of an exploded view of your winch with part numbers. Best wishes, Scott
