I have a Catalina 390 with a Yanmar 3JH 40 HP engine. I had a MaxProp installed but can't seem to get the right pitch. Currently it is set at 18 degrees based on recommendations from MaxProp. The engine now runs over 4000 RPMs at full throttle. At 3200 RPMs the boats travels at 6.2 knots. Is anyone running a MaxProp in a 390 and if so, what degree of pitch is it set? What RPM's and speed are you getting?

Josh, I have a friend with a Catalina 42. They have a Maxprop 18" and it is set at 20 degrees. I realize a C-42 is not a 390 but the boat lengths are close.
What is the max rated RPM for your 3JH? If you are exceeding the maximum RPM at full throttle, the propellor is under-pitched (but then you knew that). You should have the prop re-pitched until you can only reach max rpm at full throttle with a clean bottom.
