I found s 15" 3 blade MaxiProp on Ebay. Has anyone used one like this on a 37C? with a 1" shaft? It seems like a lot to spin on a 1" shaft. I think I have a 3QM30 30 hp Yanmar on my 1983 but can't read the nameplate. Anyway of being sure what engine it is?

I found the staff at PYI to be very helpful. Give them a call. What size prop you have now?

If you can't find a name plate on your Yanmar, chances are that it IS a QM series - as far as I can recall, they didn't have one...my 3QM30 didn't anyway. If it has a separate Sendure heat exchanger, I'm 99% sure you have a QM series Yanmar. These were diesels were designed to be raw water cooled but Hunter fitted them with Sendure exchangers at the factory. My guess is a 15" MaxProp would work once you get the pitch adjusted correctly. If my memory is reliable (itt could be faulty!) the 3-blade wheels were 15" and the 2-blade were 16".

You have the HP rating and the shaft diameter, but you need more information in selecting your prop. you need the distance from the shaft to the hull. You need the transmission gear ratio. And you will want advice on how many blades fit your intended use.

Check out the Cal 40 restoration video chapter 20.

I went with a three blade.
