Does anyone have the max luff measurment for a Hunter 27 1982 style, I am deployed to Iraq but am trying to order new sails for a long vacation upon redeployment. Any help would be appreciated
Navy greetings to you,I just replaced my forestay,Jan 03. It was 38ft 6 inches. The new sails luff would be defined by furler tape feed or maximum hank-on length> I don't think you need the sail to sweep the decks.OR..... you could run a tape measure/line up your genoa halyard as high as you want it and go from there. BTW "LOTUS" is a tall rig 1981, identical to your '82 I would suppose.Good luck on your deployment. 12 1/2 more years to my 20 and I am gone from these shores.Good Sailing to youJohn
I just bought new sails for my 82 H27.The dimensions in my handbook are given as:Mast height above deck 36'3''E 9'11'' (mainsail foot)J 11'3'' (foretriangle base) P 32'4'' (mainsail luff)I 37'8'' (jib luff). The sailmaker will ask for additional measurements to account for boom, furler and sheeting variations. For example, for my Kenyon boom I measured E 9'8''. You may want to consider a sailmaker who is close to the boat and can makethese measurements for you.Good luck!
I just got some sail inventory for the same boat, and noticed that the catalogs created enough confusion with the 'tall-rig' and 'year' options, that I had to go measure. Even if they are an inch or two off, it'll get you in the ballpark for catalogued sails. If you get custom cuts, obviously you would want a better measurement.Come back safe and sail with us sometime!Islandjack
