I have a 1990 MacGregor 26C that I sail here on the Pecos (THIN water) and "fun race" at Elephant Butte Reservoir. Trivia: Rattlesnakes swim - quite well, and outboard lower units provide them access to the cockpit! The original mainsail needs to be landfilled. As shade is critical for survival in the desert, I am proposing to shorten the leach of the new mainsail by 12" to 18" to provide clearance for the bimini. Do you foresee a major decrease in performance? Will the weave of the dacron need to be re-oriented to the new angle of the boom, or does dacron really care? I am looking for a tough, durable, reasonably priced sail that will withstand amateur captain and crew, and still be competitive. Any suggestions?
