Does anyone have a web address or contact info for a company that makes REAL mattresses for boats?

Real Mattress!

Scott, there are several marine mattress companies out there who are very eager to extoll the virtues of their 'special' mattress and in the process lighten your bank account by $1100 to $1600. I have visited with most of them at boat shows and their attitude makes it very obvious they feel they have a captive audience in us boaters. A recent response to a similar question indicated there was a company here in Atlanta by the name of The Original Mattress Factory who will make a custom, hinged mattress for about $300. The underside is covered with a vinyl-like material to prevent condensation damage. Sounds like a plan to me! Their number is 770-612-8117. Since I live here in ATL I would be pleased to assist you if I can. Good luck! As a matter of fact I plan to go visit this company and do a comparison. I will be happy to report back for the information of all interested parties. Regards, Howard Kornack "DreamCatcher"

Me too!

I also researched the mattress situation looking to replace the worn aft berth in my H 29.5. You are correct about the $1,00.00 plus price range. That is for real innerspring mattresses though. However, even the foam rubber ones from JSI/Sailnet in excess of $500 for the aft queen+ size berth in 4" foam with two folds. Would be interested to hear what you find out as JSI is my best option at this point.

When we purchased our new Passage 42, I took the mattress to McMillian's bedding in Jacksonville, FL. They made a latex mattress for us in two pieces, using the one that came with the boat as a pattern. Cost around $80, but well worth it. We lived on the boat for 5 years.

In ref. to the interest in the Original Mattress Factory in Atlanta. I posted the information about their product about two years ago. We had one made for our 376 and still love it. I left the templet I made with them so if you have that model, you won't need to make one. If anyone has any questions please feel free to E-mail me. This has turned out to be one of the best improvments we've made on our boat.

Handcraft Mattress

I bought a 2 piece 4 inch foam mattress from Handcraft for my Moody 34, just before I sold it. It was great but it cost about $1000. I wish I had heard of thee other companys sooner.
