I was at Matts welcome home in Annapolis and one of the CRAB volunteers told me that St. Brendan is going to the Maritime museum to be put on display.

I hope they give the ol' lady a thorough washdown: the gunk on the sides looked quite epic.

Fitting resting place for a vega :)

Never thought I would own something that belongs in a museum!!! The
poor thing is sat on it's trailer outside the house in the pouring
rain... at least the Forgen is spinning like a whirling dervish and
charging the battery!
It will be launched on Friday - I hope the weather improves!
I have given the inside a good clean but not much else. It seems to
be in reasonable condition and the new cushions help. Hope the new
seacocks are watertight...

latest pics here...

ps I was studying the variable pitch prop and noticed that it travels
further in reverse than in forward.. ie a coarser pitch can be
obtained with the lever all the way back than all the way forward. Is
there a correct way to set it up?.. I can simply remove the throttle
lever and re-fit so I get more forward travel... not sure how a
coarser pitch will affect performance....... it looks like "full
throttle" is obtained before "full pitch"?

Anyone messed about with adjustments?

Looks really good.

I put a varnished hinged kick plate over my electric panel, located same as
yours. Keeps it a bit dryer - safe from a direct splash - and keeps it from
being . . .kicked.

Nice job on that. Great looking insides. Best looking bolt over windows I've ever seen. tg

Thanks for the kind comments.. much appreciated. Good idea ref
covering the switches and ignition... The windows were relatively
painless to do - just a bit repetitive with all the screws and I like
the dome head nuts, just looks a little neater. I should have paid
more attention to getting the old windows clean - you can see marks! -
too late now...

I have been measuring the output of the Forgen wind generator... it
is pathetic! It is a windy day here and it struggles to get past
12V... even though it is going like the clappers. I guess it is
just a trickle charger - the solar panel works better even on an
overcast day! I think the Forgen will go on Ebay! I am amazed people
have the cheek to sell things that do not really work that well...
still I suppose it would be fine in the Arctic with gales all day
long...

Hi TJ et al,
As former Vega owners (City Zoo), we still follow the Digest, and wanted to say how pleased we are that you could welcome Matt back from his epic journey. What an accomplishment for Matt, as well as worldwide recognition for our brave little boats!

I just read your post on the Forgen. Sounds like its a wind generator.
Be careful ... It may actually be working fine. When you connect anything to a battery, the battery usually pulls the voltage of anything connected to it to its voltage. Which sounds like in your case is 12 volts or so. I am no expert on wind generators, but I think you should measure current flowing into the battery to make an accurate judgement on if your generator is any good.

John,
Just looked at your pics. You have a caption on sleeping in fwd berth with legs open. lol.
Im not at my boat, but I believe there is a piece of wood that fits that last spot (and maybe a cushion) so you dont have to sleep with your legs open.

It can be refabricated easily.
Also, i only looked at two pages of your pics, but there is a very nice table that goes with the vega and two metal legs. I didnt see this in your photos. The table can fit in the cabin and in the cockpit. Thats what those bronze holes are for.

tomorrow.. I am sure I have kept it.. there was so much stuff in the
boat when I bought it!
