Material around the shaft

Hi folks.

I finished painting with priming and anti-fouling.
I noticed the area around the shaft end (arrow pointing to it) is flexing.
It looks like it has something like Sika around it.
I would assume this would be fiberglass.
Has anyone noticed something similar or has information about it?

Best,

It is some kind of caulk on most Beneteaus. 5200 or sika would work. It’s meant to be flexible to absorb any vibration from the shaft. Over time on some boats it wears out and water starts to seep into the area around the shaft on the inside.

Thanks a lot David.
I thought that would be the case, due the strong vibration in that area.

I usually inspect it, while hauled out & replace it as needed with 5200. Same for caulking at interface of keel & bottom of hull.

I had a leak when I first bought my boat….. I cleaned and reinforced the entire area with an epoxy puddy. Extra support and no leaks.
