Alan, Reading through the Archives, I saw a message from you where you were thinking of adding some Masthead Spinnaker Halyards to your 35.5. Do you ever add these halyards and if you did what did your PHRF committee think about it? Mark

not masthead!

The H35.5 is a fractional rig and therefore the spinnaker should not be flown from the masthead as it could over-stress the rig. There should be a sheave just above the headstay tack where the spinnaker halyard would exit the mast.

Yep! you're right.

Steve is right about the frac rigged spinn halyard on the stock boat. Mark, I am putting a masthead spinnaker on the boat along with a custom retractable bow sprit which I am just now completing. This setup will allow me to carry a larger akite and sail deeper than the conventional setup. I figured that JBoats(among others) do it so why not try it. The big gain is carrying a larger sail area with less crew and more speed. I expect the PHRF committee to smack me with a pretty good penalty, but we are already able to sail way above our rating.
