Maybe it's me <G>, but I have occasionally had a problem with my spinnaker halyard fouling the furler, even when lines are tied aft of the mast. Last fall I had a local s/s fabricator make an extended crane which is bolted on at my masthead. The result has been very successful, no more fouled lines/halyards/RF and much easier to use with the sock spin. it's 1/4 inch s/s stock, extends about 10", and the spin halyard is fastened foreward to the bowrail with a block, and out of the way when not being used. No more fouled rig or fouled furler.
