1995 29.5 mast stays up and our light was out last Fall. Climbed up (TopClimber) but could not see how to get plastic casing off. Any experienced folks out there?

Depends upon manufacturer.

I can only speak for my Ancor masthead tricolor. At the base of the lense there is a black ring. That is a lock ring, takes about a quarter turn to unlock I think. Then the lense lifts straight up.

Masthead maintenance

On my 29.5, the masthead light has a phillips screw on the top. Loosen this, and you can remove the plastic lenses and replace the bulbs.

If Aqua Signal it's a Twist-Lock

If your anchor light is Aqua-Signal it's a twist-lock. Take a firm hold of the lens and gently twist it and lift up. Don't remember which direction but there are only two choices. It's been my experience that most reasons for the anchor light (or steaming light for that matter) not working is due to corrosion or wiring connections (which also may be due to corrosion). If it were new, or if you can clean the corrosion, put on some dielectric grease on all the contact points as well as the wiring connections.
