Hello everyone. I'm about to re-step the mast on my O'day 25 and want to replace the masthead light before I do. There's nothing wrong with the origial Perko unit but the fiberglass mount that was riveted to the mast has suffered from UV light degredation and has vertical tears worn in it from spinnaker control lines. Has anyone replaced their light with a vertical mount unit? I'm hoping there is something out there that will cover the through-mast hole for the wiring that was formerly covered by the fiberglass mount. I've seen images of a vertical mount Perko unit that was oval in shape, and presumably not be as subject to chaffing as the old mount. Although I've not posted on this forum very much, it has been a big help as I refurbish my 25 getting it ready for use this spring. Thanks!

Try a water hose

When I replaced mine last year I used a vertical mount with a light sensor which turns the light off in daylight. I ran the cable through about 6" of water line wrapped in black leectrical tape and shoved it in the hole. Looks OK and hides the wire. You might want to consider an LED bulb for low power consumption and long life.

Thanks for the tips folks. Low power consumption will definitely be a consideration when making my selection.

Any specific models that you all have used???

It is ironic that this post has popped up. I too am facing the same upgrade. I want to upgrade my anchor light, and my steaming light. The original lights on my 25 oday are iffy at best, and mostly illegal as they don't work when I need them. I have been looking at the combo steaming/deck light at West Marine I like the look of them and that would solve one of my problems. I also have looked at the self contained anchor lights that you run up the forestay with the jib halyard. I kind of like this idea too. Help!!! Ross in Tampa 1979 Oday 25 "Lola"

mast head lite

I run a Davis mast head lite up my halyard on an aluminum rod that is tied to my halyard. the rod allows the lite to rise above the mast to give a true 360 degree angle. I use an old 2 prong extension cord to power it. You may not like this hillbilly rig but it works well for me. gene

Book on boat lites?

I too am going to have to replace, looks like my whole boat lighting system on my 79 22 footer. Any one know of a good book on boat lighting systems? I'm sure i will need some guidance. How long will a battery keep the exterior nav or anchorage lights burning? My out board doesn't have a charger. David S.

LED

I have purchased LED lights from the following source "http://www.ledshoponline.com/FLUX_masthead_lights.htm" some of the LED lights offered in USA are out of sight on price.

source for Halyard lights....

The lights that I have seen have been on Ebay. I did a simple search for anchor lights and they came up. Not much help, I know, buts that's what I have found. Ross in Tampa
