We had just a fantastic day on the bay today as the Master Mariners Regatta was held today in ideal conditions. I've been following Charlie Cobra's posts and would love to see his boat down here in it. Also just wanted to say thanks to all our current and former servicemen and women. Have a great weekend sailing.

Yup, I'm probably in some of your pictures, just west of Alcatraz when the Alma headed south. Whew, what a day!

Great pictures Gary, thanx! Lived in Oakland as a very young lad. My Dad, a Marine, worked on Treasure Island. I never did sail on the bay though. This is a good weekend to remember my Dad and all the other servicemen and servicewomen.

Yes Gary, great pic's.

I was out there too; in the Richardson's Bay, GG Bridge, Alcatraz area from about 12:45-2:30, then around Angel Island through Racoon Straight back to Sausalito. We got near the majestic boats on a couple of their legs around the bay. A wonderful sight to see.

I was out with a tender sort as passenger, so I had my mainsail reefed and a few turns of genoa remained wrapped around the furler. Plenty of wind though to keep us moving at a good clip.

Lots of other sailboats heading every which way enjoying the holiday. Many well trimmed sails.

We'll be at it again later today (this time with crewmate wife) after visiting the Sausalito Caledonia Street fair.

Anybody Else See the Whale?

Also yesterday on SF Bay, I had a great whale sighting about 1/2 mile south of Angel Island's Pt Blunt in the channel between Alcatraz Island. The first view was from a distance away when I thought I saw a log that at the next glance in the direction wasn't there anymore. Then about a minute later, at a much closer few hundred yards dead ahead, a full whale's back appeared followed by a brief display of the tail. It was moving at a good clip towards the Golden Gate. The beast must have dived deeper (depth sounder was showing 150') because we never saw it again. This was good sized beast.
