I live five hours from my new (to me) 38, and I obviously missed some details in my first inspection trip.

I have some antique instruments that I need to replace, and I'd rather not drop the mast. Does the mast's internal wiring channel open into the gridwork below the mast, or is internal wiring going to have to wait for the mast to come off? Or as a handy cable maker, maybe I can pull new cables using the old ones as pull lines?

I have to replace the cables for both the radar (which is antique) and the masthead wind instrument (which is missing).

Bénéteau mast wiring

Hallo J.
I've been looking at several photographs of first 38's. All wiring seems to exit the mast between 15cm and 25cm from the bottom and enter the cabin through watertight fittings on the cabin top.
This would be consequent with what is still done by Bénéteau... this way the boat has a watertight roof. The connectors would all be in the ceiling adjacent to the compression post.
Then... wind and radar are aftermarket and a P.O. might have done it in any other way??
Have a friend or marina neighbour take a picture and e-mail it to you then you could "see" for yourself.
Have a great time updating the boat: it's part of the fun of ownership.

That is what is done on the my first 375. The wind is done the same way, and I actually have some unused through roofs, so I think Beneteau left some room for expansion
