mast wedge questions

It looks like one of my wedges split during decommissioning last fall. What type of wood are you supposed to use for the wedge? It looks like mine are teak. What about using wolmanized lumber? Also how many wedges are needed? I assume a minimun of 4. Thanks.

Pat the mast should be completely

encircled by the wedges and they should be curved inside and outside to fit the mast and the hole in the deck. I wouldn't use pressure treated lumber there because the salts used are corrosive. In your neck of the woods you could use sassafras, black walnut, white oak, larch, Honduras mahogany, black locust, all of those should be available for making wedges.

are also made from a hard rubber.....I just purchased 4 large ($9 each) and 4 small ($8 each)rubber ones from RigRite. They also have wood. It was told to me that the hard rubber ones are the way to go.......we will see. Good luck!
