Mast tuning

While sailing my 87' T/R, I noticed a gap on the leading edge of the mast at the step of about 1/8". With the opposite side digging in just as much. My question is: Is this something to worry about? and What is the set up dimension fore and aft for the tall rig? Also, this boat is equiped with CNG. I've called around and searched the net and to get the cylinder exchanged or filled turns into an expedition. Does anyone have a suggestion on where to look for an exchange location or would I be better off converting over to propane? Thanks in advance! Richard

Mast, CNG

Richard, Your mast should be vertical. It sounds like it may be tilting aft if you have a 1/8" gap at the base in fwd. All of the Brewers yards have CNG bottles to exchange. Also, the chandelry (forget the name) in Essex, CT has replacement CNG bottlels. On my 87 C30, I had two CNG bottles. One to keep in use, and a spare to exchange when I got to a Marina that had CNG. As long as you cruise in the LI Sound area, you shouldn't have a problem finding CNG. I wouldn't bother converting to LPG.

Mast

There should be no gap between the deckplate and the mast. Your rig needs tuning and basic tuning should be done before further sails. I would suggest you become a member of the 30 association and obtain a copy of the Tech articles. In the meantime you could try contacting Dick Dickens (tech editor) at TEKTALKDIK@aol.com.

Another CNG source..

is Milford Boat works. This will be a little closer to Monroe than one of Brewers yards. I haven't purchased CNG recently, but I know Milford boat works used to sell it. Give them a call and see if they still do.
