Sorry it took so long to respond...just re-read article... I had slack at leeward side in 5 knots, so I hooked on my auto-pilot-bungee, and tightened the lee side up at 5 knots. Will check at 10 & 15 too. Also, I've tried running the lines from the jib/genny INSIDE the shrouds. Makes for a flatter and tighter sail on bottom too...inside spreaders doesn't work well in some winds though as sail will touch lines...also are spreaders supposed to point backwards ? Rack & bend - is rack with mast straight and bend with mast curved, distance from main at cabin ?

"Rake" that "rack"

Mike Y, Rake is the "Positioning of the top of the mast forward or aft of a perpendicular to the deck at the partners." Sail Power, glossery, pg 488. In other words, the angle a line from the bottom to the top of your mast differs from a line straight up from the bottom of the mast. The rack is what your wife give you when you come home late, drunk and smelling like another woman's perfume. "Bend" is the "curvature in the mast produced by the force of the wind or by mechanical means." Id. In other words, the amount the mast buldges away from being straight. On h23's, when you tension the outer shrouds, they push in, and because the shrouds are swept back, forward, producing a forward bend in the midsection of the mast. You should know that the manual states that the leeward shrouds should not be loose in 10 -12kts of wind. TIghten those hummers a bit. Jim Kolstoe, h23 Kara's Boo
