mast tuning instructions incomplete hunter 25

the tuning procedure that came with my 2006 hunter 25 does not mention or include the upper diagonal(s) /rev diagional(s). I have heard this configeration called a "diamond". tension is applied through the two turnbuckles located on the mast just above the upper strut(s). this rigging is shown in hunter dwg 258047A (D2 and RD1 complete one half of the diamond). help solving this will be greatly appreciated; regards Graham

Graham, If you google B&R Rig you will find information about tuning boats with this type of rigging.

The two turn buckles at the bottom of this "diamond" are used to set the mast prebend. This can be done with the mast flat and the boat still on the trailer.

The amount of prebend depends on the cut of the sail and how strong the winds are. More prebend flattens the sail to reduce heeling in higher winds.

I'm sure you could contact Hunter to ask the recommended range for your model or any good Hunter dealer should have that information. You could also lay out your sail on the grass and look at the curve in the the luff, that would tell you minimum amount of prebend to use.

The amount of prebend will probably be between 1 and 2 inches, less for light winds more for strong winds.

I'm in C30 at NSC, feel free to drop by and talk about it some more if you want.

Your pre-bend should be 1 per cent of the distance fron tne gooseneck to the truck (masthead). Somewhere in the vacinity of 3 to 4 inches. Get the write-up on this from selden mast. It is available here on this web site and from Selden. In fact, get their tips book and read it. You will come to understand.
