mast support bulkhead

hey everyone, i'm continuing the refit/restoration of number 1076, and had a quick question for anyone who has replaced the bulkheads under the mast. My Vega shows no sign of a mast compression problem, but a leaky portlight the previous owner never fixed allowed water to wick up the bulkhead and put a funny warp/wrinkle in the port bulkhead. My question is if port and starboard bulkheads are the same shape, just a mirrored image? Can i pull both out and make a pattern from the starboard side or is the port slightly different? If it is different does a pattern exist to fabricate a new one, or if the pattern does exist i can avoid disassembling the starboard side which is intact. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi Karl
I know that it is not an answer to the question that you asked - but:

I have just re-inforced the mast support beam *after* it became necessary
and as you are replacing the port bulkhead anyway
and as you are doing a general refit
and as your boat is even older than mine :)

I would suggest reinforcing the support beam....(When I bought my boat in 2005 I noticed that the door to the forecabin
rubbed against the shelf on the port side when I tried to close it.
I managed to "persuade" it to close and forgot about the problem till a
month ago when I found I could no longer shut the door as it was rubbing
against the mast support beam.)

Just my 0.02 Euro worth.

Good luck with the bulkhead replacement.

Forgot to say that I bought reinforcement kit from Steve Birch from whom I
also received lots of very helpful advice...
