First, thanx to those who helped with documentation, thin as it is, but appreciated. After outfitting our 1975 H25 we've started taking her to the water. Our baby has, what I've never seen before, steps screwed to the mast all the way to the top. Neat for the skinny brazen kind, but that's not me. The problem is that the halyards keep being blown or somehow getting wrapped around these steps which prevents raising the jib or mainsail. I've been able to get it loose from the lower steps but yesterday it wrapped around the top step and I had to have someone - not me - climb and release. Is this a common problem with the steps? How do YOU avoid the problem? Or does one just have the steps removed? HELP !!!! Bill s/v Chaconne

response to mast steps

ive seen those steps on many bigger boats but not on any7thing 25 ft. you might try to make a guard of sorts by running light line from the uppermost step on the outside down to the bottom step using cable ties to secure it. the line should help keep your lines from being tangled

Lose the steps

Lose the steps. It not that big of a deal to take the mast down if you have a problem up high. Until then, make sure your going into the wind when raising and lowering, keep some tension on the halyard, and maybe crank the motor up a bit to create some apparent wind on your nose. Good luck.
