I recently purchased an oday 27and was wondering what holds the mast in place at the deck after it has been stepped?

Mast Step

Funny you should ask John! I put the same question to this site when I was hauling my own newly aquired 27 this past October. I had 0 replies! The step is really quite simple. Only about a three inch post that the mast slips over. No pins to worry about. Carefull to raise the mast straight up about 4-5 inches which will give you room to unplug the wiring for your lights & instruments. It's really just the shrouds & stays that keeps the mast in place. It's great to hear of another Oday 27 on the north shore of Lake Ontario! Stop in at Port Hope Yacht Club if you get into the "big lake" in 2005, we're 7 miles west of Cobourg, 60 miles east of Toronto and 1st night is free if you're recipricol. Best of luck with your new 27, We sure love ours!
