mast stepping

Getting ready to step the mast on our 23.5 for the second year . Last year it went very smooth , much more than stepping the 23 . I do not remember it the baby stays that keep the mast centered are tight with the mast in the crutch or it there is some play in them . As the mast goes up does the distance between the mast attachment and the hooks stay the same or does it change as the mast rises ? Thanks Mike

Leave some play or they will bind on stanchions.

Good advice but one other thing to look at. I forgot which way the pelican hooks are suppose to be hooked into the ring on the stanchion but watch that as you raise the mast so the pelican hook will not bind on the attachment point of the stanchion.
