I am looking at a H280 and have been reading all the great information provide on this site ... Great Job everyone, thanks.

Is there a mast stepping system for a H280?

Thanks,

Parker

Not to my knowledge. The mast is a pretty big spar and does NOT have a hinged step. It must be lifted up, the mast wiring connections fed into the "pipe" for routing below then set down onto the cast base plate.

Mast stepping system for a H280 - possible!

parkermcc,

Maybe too late for an answer but I just join the club.

It does exist! I own a H280 (1998) and I had it modified by Hunter when I bought it. Using the approach of an 'A' frame, both plates of the mast and the boat are converted (hinge). I further modified it (slightly) to allow single man operation and it works just fine.

Hope it is not too late!

Good to know ADHOC. Were the fittings for the mast base and deck custom fabricated? Is the mast wiring connection use the same method - ie pigtails that run thru a pipe into the interior overhead? Pictures would be awesome.

ADHOC, I'd be very interested in hearing more details about the mast raising system you mentioned. I have the Hunter mast crutch that sits on the swim platform and a trailer with a mast support above the bow for my 1996 H280.

If I could systematically manage the mast stepping, I would consider transporting the boat from time to time. Thanks, Rob.
