Figured out the best way to step my mast (Vagabond 14) was to attach a line to the forward mast stay, run that line through a loop on the tailer (near the winch) back through a clamp mid-ship.
Get the mast foot attached, attached the side stays, raise the mast while pulling the line. When the mast is in place, make sure the line is secure, hop out and attach the forward stay, remove the rope.
5 minutes or less. Very little effort.
