I'm thinking of purchasing a 79, 20ft Daysailer that has a damaged mast step. Where do I get parts for it? David C.

Rod Johnson,

which boat?

The O'Day 20 was not built in 1979, 1978 was last year. Is this a Day Sailer that you have? If so, any sparmaker should have the maststep, they are available from Dwyer Mast as well. However, your best bet will probably be Rudy Nickerson at D&R Marine, (508) 644-3001 or online at below link.

Must be a 1978

The last 2 digits in the serial# is 79 and I always thought that told the year.I haven't bought it yet because I want to see how difficult it is to obtain parts. The present owner had it at the dock and the cable broke and the step bent when the mast came down.He wants to weld it but I'm leery of that. Thanks for reply!

Rod Johnson,

Sounds like a 1979

If the HIN reads XDYPxxxxM79m, where XDY = O'Day, P is the model code for O'Day 20, xxxx = the Class# (sometimes called hull#), M79 = 1979 model year, m = there will be a code letter here (A = August, B = Sept., C = October, model year ran Aug - Jul., so A = Aug 1978, L = Jul 1979) However, the O'day 20 was not built in 1979 model year.....so maybe this is not an O'Day 20?

Not an O'Day 20

I talked to the owner and he told me it was a daysailer.I was under the assumption that a daysailer was a 20 footer. The owner told me it was 16 or 17'.With the other info you gave me I'll figure out more of what it is. Thank you again.DAC

Rod Johnson,

Day Sailer is 16' 9"

That sounds like a Day Sailer, should be a Day Sailer II, and if so.....feel free to ask any questions! I have owned a 1979 DS II since 1996, and love to talk about my boat. I also have an owner's manual/rigging guide for the boat, I've been making copies available for $7.00 including postage if you need one. ps: is this boat orange, or yellow? Those were the standard colors for 1979, mine is yellow.
