I have an 82 Catalina 30. Just love her. This weekend, my wife noticed that it was very difficult to fully shut the door to the head. The corner of the door was hitting the fiberglass where the mast support attaches to the bulkhead. It's as is the the mast support in the cabin compressed an 1/8 of an inch or so. This caused me great concern. Has anyone ever experienced compression of the mast support inside the cabin?? Thanks Jeff Kroeller

Sounds like bad news

If the deck coring is rotten, the mast will "sink" into the compression post which would cause the fiberglass liner to sink with it. You should probably get a pro to look at it cuz it sounds like you'll have to unstep the mast & fix the deck. Ugh! LaDonna

Mast compression

Deck is fine. I am concerned about compression under the support by the bilge. After reading further last night, I disvovered that this is a common problem but that the support block can be replaced. At this point, I have only lost 1/16 to 1/8 of an inch.

Good luck!

Compression at either end is a PITA! Still a great boat!! LaDonna
