HELP!!
The deck plate and tabernacle on my O'Day 222 {1986} is broken. I understand that a new version exists but where can it be obtained? The mast is manufactured by Z-Diffusion.

Also, the spreader tips are missing??
And the spreader bases are cracked!!

I purchasedc the boat last June in Maine.

Thanks so much.

Rev. Dale,
You have the same year and make O'Day as I have. The mast extrusions on the internal halyards set-up of the Z-Spar were made in France and they were made of cast Aluminum. When I lost my mast out off Newport RI in the 90's, I had a rigger in Warwick RI install a Kenyon stainless steel mast tabernacle on my new Z Spar mast. I bought the utility plate and installed it myself, along with the bottom half of the tabernacle on the cabin top. The rigger added an exit plate on the mast right next to the Main Halyard exit plate for the Jib halyard. He also added an additional jam cleat and clam cleat for this halyard. The original tabernacle had a sheave at the bottom for the Jib Halyard, and I disliked this arrangement intensely. The new arrangement allows me to pull down on the Jib Halyard instead of up from the bottom of the mast. Also, I can still use the same mast winch for both halyards. Dyer makes a stainless steel hinge tabernacle that is similar to the Kenyon. You can use either one. I'd let a rigger do it though. I'm not sure about spreader extrusions, but the rigger can take care of that problem for you. Here's a few pictures of my set-up so that you can get an idea of what is needed. When I mounted my tabernacle on my cabin top, I mounted the utility plate and tabernacle on a piece of Teak so that my stays would fit. Years later, I am discovering that this was one of the smartest moves I ever made for getting the needed clearance in mast raising/lowering with my Gin Pole rig. So, I'm glad that I did that. Good luck, and let me know how you make out.

Check with D&R Marine

Rev. Dale -

You should always check with Rudy at D&R Marine for anything related to the O'Day's. He is the O'Day go-to guy. He's a wealth of knowledge (used to work for O'Day is my understanding), and he makes sure the item you buy fits right. I've bought a number of things from him over the years and have never been disappointed.

Good luck with the 222. I have really enjoyed mine, going on 8 years now.

Best regards,

Dave

Hi Rev. Dale,
My email address is sailtrinkka1986@verizon.net I'll try to get you the dimensions of the block tomorrow. My boat is right next to my house under cover and it shouldn't be a problem. Feel free to email me and I will send you any pics or info that I have on my 222. Also, check out my pics on this site under "Trinkky-Dinky" "Owner's Picture Albums" O'Day 222.

Rev. Dale,
Actually, at the time I didn't have any Teak that was 5" wide so I took two pieces of Teak and glued them together to get the 5" width for the block. When I got through, I had a block that was 12"X5" X 1-1/8" thick for the tabernacle and utility plate to sit on. My tabernacle is a Kenyon and it measures about 6-1/2"X 3-5/8". The old cast aluminum tabernacle had a sheave for the Jib halyard on the mast and I needed to do away with this arrangement. Two of my old stays were in good condition and it was decided that we would go ahead and use them with the new tabernacle and have them fit just as they did with the old tabernacle. The rigger at Rig-Rite in RI. http://www.rigrite.com/index.htm
told me to make the block 1-1/8" thick and it would work. I installed the block and Tabernacle plates to the cabin and the rigger installed the top half of the Tab with the mast plug, into the mast. He replaced my lower stays with new ones. Most of the extrusions from my old mast were still good and we used them on the new Z-Spar mast.

Dear O'Day Owners:
I replaced the tabernacle at the base of my mast on the O'Day 222. However, in order to install it I must add an exit plate to accomodate the jib halyard. Does anyone know the correct size for this exit plate?
