I have a Catalina Capri 26 and snapped my mast. Who has gone though ordering a new mast? Where did you order it from? Do you have do do much to it when you received before you could raise it?

Looks like I need a new tabernacle and mast.

Thankfully no one was hurt and a fellow sailor came along side and helped.

Thanks for any info you can give me.

You should be able to go to Catalina and order one from them, or you can get a dealer involved and have them order it for you and then they can do any of the work that might be required that you are unable to do.I would check your insurance to see if this is covered. Glad that no one was hurt.

I would also replace my rigging as there had to be a rigging failure of some kind to cause a mast to fail. I believe that Catalina Yachts would sell you the actual mast & rigging that came with your boat, rather then using something aftermarket. Also check your chainplate attachments at the deck & bulkhead to ake sure that they weren't damaged by the stress of a mast failure. We used to have a C 22 & C 25 and I always felt that the mast extrusion, boom, & rigging were built on the light side. The Capri models as I understand it are lighter, & built more for racing & performance, but I doubt that Catalina beefed up the rig to take additional load. Is your boat a tall rig? They produce more stress on the rig due to larger sail area aloft. Good luck on your repair, and don't feel bad. My neighbor lost his mast a week ago on his S 2 26 footer. Very similar design to your boat. Its most important that no one got injured, other then your pride!

After further inspection I think my ring got sprung on my pin on the port upper stay from a jib line snag. I found the ring all stretched out on the deck. The stay is in tack with no damage. I will tape up my rings from now on.

I have posted before that all of the cotter pins that Catalina originally used to stop turnbuckles from coming loose are way on the light side. After 20 -30 years (or more) of age most original ones are about to break in half or have fallen out. I would not trust my rig and safety to a 25 cent piece of junk fitting. I replaced everything on my rig that lookes suspicious, except I still need to replace my wooden spreaders one of these days.
