Anyone have a good way to get rid of (or minimize) the mast slap from the halyards inside of the mast?

Bungie cord..

I don't have a problem with the halyards slapping instide the mast but they do make a racket on the outside if I don't secure them away from the mast. I clip the head sail halyard on the bow pulpit so that's not an issue. I leave the main halyard attached to the main headboard though. I pull the halyard off the mast by using a short bungie cord to drag it towards a shroud.

Tighten it.

I attach the halyard to the base of one of the stanchions and then tighten it. It does not slap inside nor outside the mast.

Might be more than halyards slapping

Scott, If the suggestions provided don't minimize the noise, it may be wiring that's slapping around. One method to silence that is to remove the base of the mast and use pipe insulation (long foam tubes that look a bit like thin black swim noodles.) By feeding this up into the mast (wrapping the wires) and using the halyard suggestions above you should all but eliminate the noise. There are a few good archive threads on this technique. I agree with Dave

My 23.5 used to make a lot of noise too. Nothing done to the halyards would change it. I learned here that it was the cable for the mast head light, and I did exactly what Dave said. Because the spreaders have a bar that goes through the mast, it's hard to feed the pipe insulation all the way from bottom to top. So, I removed the mast foot and head and worked from both ends. It's absolutely quiet now. The best $6.00 I spent on my boat. (Oh, that's not counting the rivets and a rivet tool, so make that $36!) ...RickM...
