Question: I am docked among about thirty other sailboats (all between 22 and 24 foot - and manufactured by different vendors,McGregor,Catalina, etc) Those boat owners (and I) have noticed that the 240 mast is shorter and half the thickness of their masts. Does anyone know why ? I have already snapped one mast .

I've noticed the same thing. I'm slipped with boats in the 30-35.5 range and my mast looks like a tooth pick compared to the 30-35' catalinas and hunters. And compared to the size of the 30' cabin cruisers on each side of me my boot looks like a dingy. It looks so much bigger on its trailer in the drive way

How I broke it
While I was raising it. The side struts were not aligned properly. Put the new mas up with my son-inlaw,without the struts on it...leveled the boatdeck(while on the trailer)plumbed the mast and put the struts back on.
