This last weekend I was boating on Lake Washington in Seattle and saw a boat with a wishbone boom. I have found several articles about the wishbone boom, but I haven't found any that discuss how the mast is supported. Can anyone direct me to a reference that describes the complete rigging setup when using a wishbone boom?

Thanks,

Bob

The mast are

Free standing rigs only attached to the boat bellow decks and are specially made spars of either aluminum or carbon fiber specifically designed to be un-stayed. You can't convert a sloop spar to a wishbone rig..

some direction

Bob:

There are several boats that have had an un-stayed rig over the years. Some of them have used a wishbone boom and others have used a traditional boom.

We currently have a Hunter Vision 36. It works well. Depending on the wind conditions it can be very fast, other times it is the middle of the pack. The Hunter Vision was a take off on the Freedom Yacht rig. The Hunter uses an aluminum spar while the Freedoms have carbon fiber on some if not all of their later models.
