Seeking advise on running new mast wiring below deck through the PVC inside the mast step. Wires include anchor light, steaming light, VHF coax and Data Marine wind vane cable (7 AWG#22). Current configuration uses plugs at the mast step. Looks like my only access to wires below is through a narrow access hole from bilge. My email address is geeksrus@comcast,net.

modern boats have a cable exit at the foot of the mast and run the cable through a separate conduit into the cabin. I am about to convert to that system. I am tired of fiddling with the plugs, and sealing the hole, in the mast step. After taking off the teak convering of the compression post one can easily tie into the old wiring inside the boat. gunter meyer

Thanks Gunter Like you, I'm tired of unreliable plug connections. My boat has the conduit, but access to where the wires exit the conduit below is very limited. I'm not sure removing the teak post will help, but it's worth a try. Pete
