I just purchased a 1976 Oday 25 and would like input on a mast raising system that uses the boom as the gin pole and raises from the bow to the stern. I used to have a Flicka and followed Bruce Bingham's Sketchbook to rig one for the Flicka, which I'm sure has a much heavier mast. I'm not interested in raising it from the stern toward the bow as a personal preference and want to be able to lower and raise it on the water for future usage on the ICW, etc. I'm new to this site and tried a search for this, but could not find it. Thanks for your help.

Oday 25 Gibraltar
Here ya go-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r33VCObNroY.
Even tho' Oday originally had a system for mast raising from the bow on the 25 I prefer a stern raising, since the mast is 30' long and about 60#.
Here is how I do it-http://forums.oday.sailboatowners.com/album.php?albumid=1052.
The last 3 yrs I've stepped the mast with the boat in the water at my dock. I use my primary winch (2 speed #16) and it doesn't have the power that the winch on the trailer does so I use a 2 part purchase on the A-frame. I run a line from the stemhead to the a-frame thru a block back to a block on the stemhead then back to the primary winch; you can even do a three part hookup if you need to. I tried a single purchase the first year and it was very hard. I've always done it with an extra hand. The guy in the video must have a self tailing winch. It looks too easy. Or maybe a bigger winch.
