mast raising assist gear

Nine years later, and I'm still struggling. My inquiry to Hunter was speak to a dealer. I did, and sorry was the answer. The raising gear came out the next year, and they could not retrofit my boat. I am getting older, and its getting tougher. Any suggestions out there? {My dealer is now out of business}

Block and Tackle

EdIs your Main Sheet a block and tackle ? On my 20 I use the Main Sheet block and tackle to step my mast. My mast connects to the boat by a channel with provision for two bolts. I install the rear bolt; extend the jib halyard to about the mast base, cleat it off ; connect the main sheet between the jib halyard and an eye on the bow; lift and pull. This is ;how dealer told me to do h23, years ago, take jib sheets, attach with bowline to jib halyard, run to winchethru block atttached at anchor locker, then lift and crank, If this does not work you can email me at mmsailor @aol.com and I can tell you how i built a simple ramp that runs from top of transom to cabin top and i just walk mast right up , good luck MIke

H170 mast raising

I just bought a Hunter 17 with a 25 1/2 ft mast. It is very simple to raise the mast with the two lower shrouds connected. I use the main halyard connected to the bow cleat and then tighted down on a mast block. I also use the Hunter provided safety pole which goes into the centerboard trunk and under the boom gooseneck. This allows me to connect the forestay by myself.  I used to raise the mast on my O'Day 26 in the same fashion although that was a lot heavier. I had a winch on the mast so I was able to "winch up" the mast with the main halyard connected to a cleat on the transom. Maybe this idea could be something that you could work with. Good Luck!
