Mast Questions

Well gang, here I am in Annapolis after a 12 hour drive. Everything
checks out on the boat except the mast. Every Albin I have seen has a
gold anodized mast. This one is plain aluminum. It is made by
Proctor. All the halyards are external. Are these normal features
for a 1976 Albin? Also there is a bit of compression on the deck
directly under the mast - a slight indentation of approx. 3/16 inch
all the way around the base of the mast. No evidence of flexing
below. Should I be concerned? Can the deck-step area for the mast be
strengthened? Thanks. Trevor

Hi Trevor

The earlier ones were all bronze coloured but then they changed to the
plain aluminium colour ones by about 1975/6.

We supply a mast stremhthening kit at a reasonable cost. Not difficult
to fit and cures the mast compression problem.

All halyards should be external with just the sheaves at the top.

Thanks for solving the mast mystery Steve. Unless disaster strikes, I am
now the proud owner of Mystic Rose built in 1976 - I think she is hull
no. 2315. I can't wait to get her home to start work on her (she needs a
lot of refurbishing). That kit you refer to (for compression) is that
necessary where there is only a slight depression on the deck immediately
beneath the mast? Is there a picture of the kit on the website? Cheers.

Steve, Regarding a lift pump for fuel on my md6 . I am thinking of replacing it just because it looks rusty and old. Will a "facet" electric lift pump somtimes used in Aircraft with 4 to 5lb of pressure work? The model I am looking at is negative ground with an anti siphon valve inside pump. It has a screen that can be checked for cleaning. Not sur about the anti siphon feature..... thanks, Pat V 2137

Hi Pat

These are the pumps (Facet) that we use when installing some Beta
engines so they are OK. I have one fitted on my Vega.

Thanks, Steve. Just to make sure I Understand you, the Facet pump with the anti-siphon valve inside is ok for this application? Thanks, Pat
