I recently purchased a 1974 O'Day 22, in perfect condition except a busted mast from the hurricane. Can anyone tell me what length the original mast was? Where I can find another? Any other masts that I might be able to McGiver in there with a bit of riveting?

Rudy most likey can get you a mast ...he got me a mast for my 22 a few years ago. It is a Dwyer mast and you can order one from Dwyer mAst Co. as well. However, D&R got it for much less $$$ as they get them in bulk. Both Rudy and Dwyer hvae the specs for the mast on file so they will send you the proper length. When you buy the mast, you have the option of getting it rigged or unrigged. If you have the rigging from the old mast (and spreaders/spreader brackets, masthead, etc.) it is much cheaper to get a blank spar and do the drilling and rigging yourself ( it's NOT hard as this was my first boat and I had NO Idea what to do at first.) Measure twice, drill once. Rudy will give you all the dimensions......... Best of luck.

ODay 22

Chris, If you want to McGiver, here is what I did. First off, the mast length is 22' 4". I had to replace mine 22 mast and went searching at boat yards on the East Coast of FL. In Rockledge I found a Hobie mast that was 22'. The configuration of the mast cross section is quite a bit different from the original O'Day but with a little effort I was able to ues the original masthead. Getting the shrouds, etc the right length was a trick because of the 4" difference. To shorten the story, the mast has held up in 15-20 Kn winds w/o a problem. Good Luck. Rick
