Taller and tender
Sorry to hear about the bend in the mast. When that happened to me there was a salvaged mast available that was similar in cross section and about 24 in taller. After some deliberation with friends we decided that since my Capri would never be a real fleet class race boat why not enhance the daysailing enjoyment for the crew and plant a taller mast in the Capri? So I cut off 18 in and now the boom is now 8 inches higher and everything works fine - just as before. The only thing I notice is that sometimes I think the boat is ever so slightly more tender but it is not a bad thing, and we have some really gusty winds on our lakes. I can easily still raise the mast myself.
