BO'SUN CHAIR

Don't plan on doing this job if you have reservations. You will need somone who can winch you up and more importantly, have the capability of lowering you SAFELY down with out dropping you (through the deck). If you are in a marina, perhaps another sailor will have a chair and the experience to help you. An alternative is to make a two looped rope bo'sun chair, but I would not recommend it for you if you don't know the knots. The halyard can easily carry your weight provided it isnt rotted. Look in your catalog on the halyard working strengths. You should have a safety line to hold you close to the mast so you don't swing around at the end of the hoist line.

Halogen bulb...

After you get up the mast safely, be prepared to remove the entire light fixture. My deck light has a halogen bulb and the leads were soldered to the wiring inside the unit. If you can live without the deck light, you'll have less trouble.

No problem with safe setup

Your mast and halyard are designed for much higher weights than you! Do attach a second halyard to a harness on you as a safety line. Have your crew take out the slack every couple of feet. Get safety lines on your tools so you don't drop them on your crew. Enjoy the view! David Lady Lillie
